Opening Doors to Higher Education
In this course, middle school and high school counselors consider ways to work together to support all students in pursuing formal education and training after high school. In the first session, you will learn about the barriers faced by many students in accessing and completing higher education. You will then analyze your school and/or district data in order to identify any achievement gaps between students. Other sessions focus on the "metacognitive skills" that predict success in college and careers, career exploration for jobs of the future, and how to help families make sound financial decisions about funding education after high school. In the final session, you will work together to help students successfully transfer into high school and college.
